- Drive Mapper Loading Procedures (UNREGISTERED ONLY)
- ___________________________________________________________________
-
- If you have an unregistered copy of Drive Mapper, you will see the
- following screen when you first load Drive Mapper. You will have to live
- with the 10 second delay at the beginning of the program. Since this is
- an unwanted FEATURE that's why it's included with the UNREGISTERED
- version of Drive Mapper. You can enjoy watching the timer count down
- though the delay process. No information will be shown yet until the
- delay process is complete.

- CHAPTER 2. DRIVE INFORMATION MENU
- Part 1 - Logical Drives
-
- Logical Drives will show you all the letter(s) of the hard drives,
- floppy drives, CD-ROM drives, RAM drives & other DOS compatible drives
- that have been installed on your system, if you have 2 physical hard
- drives partitioned into 3 logical drives, then it will be displayed as
- the drives appear under DOS. Thus "ABCDE" would be displayed. If
- you are running a CD-ROM drive and have DOS's MSCDEX installed
- & setup so that you CD-ROM drive letter was "H" then the following
- would be displayed "ABCDEH" (without the quotes).
-
- With the drive letter(s) you can click the mouse on any drive letter
- listed in by Logical Drives. From here you will be able to get
- additional or different information on the drive that you have selected
- as follows below in the next part(s).
-
- Part 2 - Current Drive
-
- Current Drive shows the drive that was selected in the list
- of Logical Drives
-
- Part 3 - Disk Size
-
- Disk Size will show you the current size of your hard drive
- that you selected from the list of Logical Drives. The total hard
- drive space is read in Megs or MegaBytes, which is what the M represents
- beside the value shown in the Disk Size view. One Meg equals
- 1,000,000 bytes. To calculate the number of bytes simply calculate the
- value shown by a million. All Disk sizes & space are divided by
- 1 million instead of 1,048,576 which most programs use.
-
- Part 4 - Disk Space
-
- Disk Space will show the total number of megs remaining on the logical
- drive currently selected, shown in the Logical Drive list.
-
- Part 5 - Drives Detected
-
- The Drives detected view will display the number of logical drives
- that Drive Mapper detected on your computer.
-
- Part 6 - Total MB
-
- Total MB (Megabytes) will display the total number of megs throughout
- all your logical drives, excluding floppy drives. If you have 2 hard
- drives, one 345M and one 425M then the value shown in the
- Total MB view will be 770 Mb.
-
- Part 7 - Free MB
-
- Free MB will sum up the megs free on each of your logical drives

- If you've completed and sent in your registration form (REGISTER.FRM)
- file to the author you can run this option very easily, select the
- ˛ button, here you will be prompted to enter your name. NOTE:
- The name you enter MUST CORRESPOND to the name that you entered on the
- REGISTER.FRM file, it corresponds to the blank where it asks:
- "Name you wish to be registered to", no need to fear though, if you
- don't remember the name you put to registere the program with it will
- be on one of the documents either FAX'ed, sent by mail, or a voice

-
- If your not satisfied with your color configuration file at all, it's
- easiest to delete it and create a new one from the Drive Mapper program.
-
- NOTE: Your color configurations DO NOT take affect until you restart
- Drive Mapper.
-
- Part 6 - File Commands
-
- The File Commands interface is not yet complete for this version of
- Drive Mapper 1.10·, look forward to it in an upcoming release of
- Drive Mapper. It will include a "Mini-DOS Shell" where a variety of
- functions can be performed.
-
-
- CHAPTER 5 - TROUBLE SHOOTING
-
- Part 1 - EXIT CODES
- Drive Mapper will return one of the following exit codes when it either
- halts execution or is exited normally.
-
- Drive Mapper can and may also produce accumulative exit codes / error
- levels when exiting to DOS. For example not enough XMS memory was
- found for Drive Mapper to run and no mouse was detected, both
- the exit codes are added & you are returned to DOS with an error level
- of 5.
-
- EXIT CODE MEANING
-
- 0 Exit sucessful / Drive Mapper is REGISTERED
- 1 DOS 5.00 or GREATER was not detected
- 2 Mouse driver was not detected
- 3 Not enough XMS memory (Refer to Drive Mapper Requirements)
- 255 Exit sucessful / Drive Mapper is UNREGISTERED
-
-
- Part 2 - OVERLAY ERROR MESSAGES
-
- Drive Mapper will display an overlay error and quit to DOS when you get
- one of the following messages.
- a) Insufficient EMS memory
- If you get this message chances are you don't have an expanded
- memory manager installed. To recover from this, modify or add
- the following lines if they do not exist in your CONFIG.SYS file
- using the DOS editor.
-
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
- DOS=HIGH, UMB
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 1024 RAM
-
- b) EMS driver not loaded
- If you get this message then you have not configured your
- expanded memory properly, follow the error message procedure in
- Part 2a).
- c) Error reading .OVR (overlay) file
- If this message is displayed, then chances are the Drive Mapper
- overlay file has been tampered with or damaged by lost sectors,
- etc on your hard drive, the best thing to do is obtain another
- copy of Drive Mapper
- d) Not enough memory
- If this error mesage occurs then your system does not have
- enough conventional memory to run Drive Mapper, to solve this
- problem, the best thing to do is to remove unwanted TSRs
- (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs from your CONFIG.SYS
- and AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
- e) Overlay file not found
- If this error messages occurs make sure that you are in the
- correct path where you installed all the Drive Mapper files,
- if the DRIVEMAP.EXE file exists but not the DRIVEMAP.OVR file,
- the program will not execute. Obtain another copy of Drive Mapper.
- f) Nonspecific error
- There isn't much help for this type of error, if it occurs
- then there is most likely a problem with your computer or the
- way it is configured. The program may have been "hacked" and
- would cause it not to run.
-
-
- PART 3 - DOS SHELL ERROR MESSAGES
-
- If at all you try running the DOS shell and you get one of the following
- error messages do the following procedure corresponding with the error
- message you get on your screen.
-
- a) File not found
- your COMMAND.COM file was not found used for the temporary DOS
- shell, make sure it exists in either your \DOS or root directory.
- b) Path not found
- The path to your COMMAND.COM file was not found, follow Part 3 #A
- c) Access Denied
- If this error messages occurs, then it may be because you are
- trying to run Drive Mapper from a network, Drive Mapper is
- already running or the file was locked.
- d) Invalid Handle
- No help available.
- e) Not enough memory
- If you get this message then you can try to free up your
- computers conventional memory by removing unwanted TSRs from
- your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files
- f) Invalid environment
- The environment table in your computers memory is corrupted,
- try restarting your computer and running Drive Mapper again.
- g) Invalid format
- The COMMAND.COM file Drive Mapper was trying to read was of
- another file format. Possible tampering with the COMMAND.COM
- file.
